Dr. Brenda Bond leads Suffolk University’s research partnership with the Lowell Police Department (LPD) and other Lowell Shannon CSI partners. Dr. Bond has worked with LPD for over ten years to support community and problem-oriented policing initiatives. For Shannon CSI, Dr. Bond will use a variety of research methods to refine Shannon partners’ understanding of gang and youth violence in Lowell and the surrounding region. These include crime mapping, temporal analysis of gun crimes, qualitative analysis of serious crimes, and network analysis of Lowell gangs. This research guides suppression strategies, such as targeting “hot spots” and working with neighboring communities such as Lynn and Lawrence to address shared gang-related problems. Finally, ongoing assessment of Shannon CSI programs identifies effective strategies for Lowell and encourages LPD and service providers to focus on measurable outcomes of violence prevention.Contact:
